6 Things You Should Know Before Watching Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides

6 things you should know before planning to watch Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides

1. This fourth installment was inspired by a 1987 fantasy novel written by two-time World fantasy Award winner Timothy Thomas “Tim” Powers entitled On Stranger Tides. The book’s protagonist was John Chandagnac now known as Jack Shandy, the name not different to Captain Jack Sparrow.

The book tells the story of Jack Shandy, who, following his father’s death, travels to the new world to confront his uncle who has made off with the family inheritance. He meets a woman during his voyage and due to twist of events, he must do everything to stop evil and save her.

2. Unlike the first three, this series is not to be directed by Gore Verbinski. Oscar Award Winners Memoirs of a Geisha (2005) and Chicago (2002) director is to take over on this one.

3. Apart from being the first to be released in 3D, On Stranger tides is also the first to feature fictional adaptations of real-life characters in history by the names of famous English pirate Edward Teach known as Blackbeard, George II of Great Britain, Henry Pelham, John Carteret and Ferdinand VI of Spain.

4. Pirates of the Hawaii might just fit to be an alternative title to this one as most of the shots are mainly taken in Hawaii. The previous three had the Black Pearl sailing across of course, the Caribbean Sea of the Atlantic Ocean. Several Hawaii ship scenes were sighted in the Oahu and small portions in Maui and Molokai. Former Hawaii governor Linda Lingle previously estimated that production would generate around $85 million dollar for the islands.

5. To continue his journey hinted by the ending to the previous At World’s End, Captain Sparrow would be in search for the Fountain of Youth. “If I do not make it to the fountain of youth, neither will you” – says Blackbeard to Sparrow in the trailer. What’s with the Fountain of Youth? According to numerous accounts, this legendary spring brings back the youth of gives anti-aging power to anyone who drinks its waters.

6. As posted on Teaser-Trailer.com, a fifth and sixth installment of the Pirates series would be due in 2013 and 2014, respectively. We can’t wait to guess what’s the next thing our captain might be in for the search.
